Abstract:
Project funded by the Ministry of University and Research, as part of the Ecosystems of Innovation Liguria Region (PNRR) call, sees FDG involved in spoke 1 and 2. The project aims to sustain the development of an innovation ecosystem based on the scientific and technological domains of AI and Robotics, focusing on the needs of a specific regional context, i.e., the Liguria Region. It eventually aspires to evolving into an ecosystem highly attractive for firms, investors and researchers, both at national and international level. Within the DAT operational unit of the Don Gnocchi Foundation, in collaboration with DSI unity, a mixed reality solution was tested on 12 patients who had already been using an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) aid or home automation solution for at least 3 months. The solution allows users to perform certain home automation commands (opening/closing doors, managing shutters, turning lights on/off) using their eyes, or to use the eye pointer as an AAC tool to converse or express themselves through mixed reality. The Raise solution was developed using Uniity, and the result is a communication grid with different cells where the user can perform certain actions by selecting them with their eyes.
