Abstract:
Matthew is a 24 year old boy, from quadriplegic injury Mielica C5-C7 associated with a head injury. The traumatic event took place in summer 2005: a road accident. Matthew has been in a coma for 7 months, has awakened thanks to the diligent and loving care of the mother, who has stimulated stories, affectionate gestures, music, and especially with the recording of the voice encouraging Valentino Rossi, his sporting idol that has spurred him reappearance at the waist. Today Matthew is autonomous in breathing, feeding by mouth, verbally communicates his needs and relates satisfactorily with the world that surrounds him, using the PC with mouse adapted and moving with the power wheelchair in their home environment and outside. He needs total care for personal hygiene, sphincter management, dressing, transfer from bed / chair / bed. The purpose of the thesis is to present the project retrospective sense of autonomy played with Matthew, his discharge from Spinale to return to their home, with a glance at the future. In particular, the use will be discussed and the characteristics of its power wheelchair that allowed him to broaden their horizons, whereas this aid, which is an instrument for autonomy, is also reporting tool.
