Portale SIVA sulle tecnologie per la disabilità e l'autonomia Portale SIVA sulle tecnologie per la disabilità e l'autonomia Don Carlo Gnocchi Onlus Foundation
This Website has been designed using the most advanced dynamic HTML technologies and according to the most recent standards and accessibility recommendations defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
It also complies with the web sites accessibility requirements established by the Italian Law n. 4/2004 “Provisions to support the access to information technologies for the disabled” and the subsequent Ministerial Decree 8/7/2005 stating the “Technical requirements and the different levels of accessibility of computer tools”.

In particular, all pages of this Web site comply with the following W3C standards:
- XHTML 1.1
- CSS 3
- WCAG 2.0 level AA

As a consequence, the pages of this Web site are correctly and efficiently displayed by almost all browsers currently on the market: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer (version 8 or later), Safari and Opera. Furthermore, the Web site has been designed for a fast browsing experience in any network bandwidth condition.

The Web site layout has been optimised for displays with a definition of 1024 x 768 pixels or greater (which constitute the 99% of the displays currently on the market, according to w3schools.com, “Browser Display Statistics”, January 2013); however, thanks to a careful design and to the compliance with the above standards, a fully satisfactory browsing experience is ensured with any other kind of desktop or portable device (smartphones, tablets, pads and so on).

NOTES ON THE WCAG 2.0 SPECIFICATIONS

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 “…cover a wide range of recommendations for making Web content more accessible. Following these guidelines will make content accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity and combinations of these. Following these guidelines will also often make your Web content more usable to users in general.” (source: W3C, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, December 2008). The compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 specifications level AA makes the Web site browser-friendly for screen readers and in general for any browser used by people with visual impairments.

In particular:

- all fonts can be resized without compromising the layout and the readability of the contents;
- the colors of the texts and of the respective backgrounds have been designed for a high contrast ratio;
- wherever possible, the use of tables to format pages has been avoided. Tables have been used only to display tabular data: in these cases the browsing has been facilitated by introducing appropriate HTML tags, such as summaries, captions and headers;
- the use of Javascripts and Flash-based technologies has been reduced as much as possible. An alternate version of these pages offering equivalent functionalities is always available and it is provided to the browsers that don't support these technologies.

ATTACHED DOCUMENTS

Documents that are attached to the records of the Portal databases – whether displayable on–line or downloadable – are usually published in Portable Data Format (PDF), unless they lose significance outside their native format (e.g. excel spreadsheets; multimedia presentations, power point presentations).
Of course, accessibility of each PDF documents greatly depends on the way it has been compiled in the original format, before being converted into a PDF. In order to grant a good accessibility level for SIVA Portal documents, collaboration is required by all Portal’s contributors.
